Fawn, known as FloraPokes, is a local tattoo artist here in San Marcos that is absolutely rocking the handpoke and hand done tattoo scene. They have started tattooing at local shows and events, intertwining the art of tattoos with the art of music.
Fawn has always been interested in art throughout their life, once they came to San Marcos, they began meeting new friends who are tattoo artists. “ I loved working with acrylic paint and started to explore a lot with drawing. I had a few friends that tattoo and they inspired me to put drawings into tattoo designs! I have felt so inspired by tatting ever since.” says Fawn. As for inspiration, they find it in florals, animals, and all things living. Fawn also goes on to say how music impacts their designs, “My taste of music ( metal/ punk/ rock) inspires the gothic / alternative /whimsical/ ethereal vibe I try to incorporate in many of my designs. I try to imagine many of my designs as if they are straight from a fantasy novel.”
San Marcos also plays a large role in Fawns tattoo journey. They have made many beautiful friends and great connections since being here, and feel seen and accepted in this community. “Being a trans person, it means the world to be seen and accepted and being involved in a queer community makes me feel so at home in San Marcos.” Fawn shares.
Fawns tattoo journey so far has been filled with many beautiful connections and opportunities to meet new people and share their art with others. The most rewarding part is the connections they have made along the way. Fawn also says the best part of their tattoo journey so far is, “Really investing into something you love I believe attracts others that also want to invest into you, and the trade off is just so remarkable! I have made so many friends as well as people that truly just want me to see me grow and do what I love.”
Fawns tattoos are all phenomenal pieces, however their favorite piece is one they did recently on their friends shin. It is of a bone corset, lacing up the shin. “This has been a design I was sitting on forever before I finally posted it. Tattooing a piece I feel so proud of, especially on someone that has received many tattoos from me, is just a great feeling.” says Fawn about their favorite tattoo done thus far. This piece also allowed Fawn to “really put my stippling skills to the test and it definitely paid off.”
